This is a dorodango. Precisely, this is my first dorodango. It consists of a few ounces of dirt carved from the root system of upturned oak tree I found on the bank of the Harpeth River near my home. A little water, a lot of research, and a few weeks of toil produced my ‘Dorodango Prime’. It’s nearly completely spherical, mostly smooth, and it’s special to me.
I don’t exactly recall where I first heard of dorodango. All I can say is, a few years ago the idea that I could make dorodango was planted and it has finally begun to take root.
I’d love to share with you my experiences learning about and making dorodango. Eventually I hope to sell a few. Someday you may even commission me to produce a dorodango made from soil you’ve collected from a special place (fees reasonable).
